Constructing Excellence is leading industry improvement. It is at the hub of the built environment industry, and works closely with government, strategic partners, firms and industry organisations to shape the future of the industry and drive improvement.
Constructing Excellence members have the chance to take an active role in shaping the industry's strategic direction. You will have the opportunity to access key influencers; stand for election to our strategy setting boards, steering groups and Council; and formulate the agenda for the industry.
| BERR Select Committee - Construction Matters | January to July 2008 | Constructing Excellence provided a written response and Don Ward and Peter Cunningham gave oral evidence to the Parliamentary Select Committee for Business and Enterprise which resulted in the publication of the report Construction Matters in July 2008. |
| House of Commons reception | May 2008 | Members of Constructing Excellence and key stakeholders were invited to an evening reception at the House of Commons in May 2008. The event saw Sir John Egan give his now infamous speech in which he stated that he would "probably only give the industry about four out of 10" for progress in the ten years since the publication of Rethinking Construction. Further presenters included Nick Raynsford and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State Iain Wright. Amongst the attendees were 13 serving Members of Parliament. |
| Strategic Review of the Egan Report | Activities throughout 2008 | 2008 saw the tenth anniversary of the publication of Rethinking Construction (the "Egan Report"), the report of the Construction Task Force chaired by Sir John Egan which was set up by then Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott in 1997. Constructing Excellence felt that it would be timely to conduct a major review of the achievements of the last ten years to inform the ongoing improvement agenda for the built environment sector. The review has, to-date, incorporated an industry survey and a report from g4c (the "early career" group of Constructing Excellence). The review will now be taken forward by small, high level group of senior industry figures chaired by Andrew Wolstenholme of BAA. | Defra Select Committee on waste | November 2008 | In November 2008 Jon de Souza gave evidence to the Defra Select Committee considering the Waste Strategy for England 2007 on behalf of the Constructing Excellence membership. Jon was joined by Andrew Kinsey from CE member Bovis Lend Lease. |
| Strategy for Sustainable Construction | June 2008 | Constructing Excellence provided a significant quantity of material into the consultation on theStrategy for Sustainable Construction. This evidence was gathered from both the Constructing Excellence membership and from those organisations involved in the Constructing Excellence agenda at a regional level. |
| Foresight Powering our Lives: Sustainable Energy Management and the Built Environment Project | February 2008 | In February 2008 Constructing Excellence contributed to the Foresight report on Sustainable Energy Management and the Built Environment which was published in November 2008. |
| UKGBC | August 2008 | Constructing Excellence agreed reciprocal membership of the UK Green Building Council in August 2008. |
| Construction Commitments | Ongoing | Constructing Excellence has promoted the Construction Commitments to its membership and wider industry. |
| Consultations | Ongoing | We regularly invite our members to input into policy consultations. |
| CE Representation on External Groups | Ongoing | Constructing Excellence staff represent the organisation and its membership on a number of high-profile and strategically important external groups. |
